Assignment 2: Designing the Space

The space that I will design is going to be a public bath house area set on top off a hillside. There will be entrances to the bath house through a corridor at the back and will allow for entrance or for passing through. The two entrances will be to the changing rooms split into male and female. Both these rooms will then be linked to the centre courtyard where there can be access to either changing rooms as well as the main entrance to the open bathing area. The bathing area also has a balcony that will over look the site and will relate back to how people can be seem but there is no one to see them. Also relates to how you can stand there and look out to an open vast area and thus having freedom. Though in the middle of the courtyard, there will be a statue/structure that will impair vision from all three areas thus relating to how you people are unable to see you, but you can also not see them.

In terms of lighting and how light will work around the space is that the courtyard will be open and will have sufficient lighting in it. Though for the changing rooms, the walls will be slightly lower and also slanted to allow for natural lighting to come in. There is also a slit on the wall in the bathhouse, that is high up which means people can't see out of it, and it being small as well. The main purpose of it is to allow for lighting when the sun is directly facing the building.

Assignment 2: Narrative

The woman staring out of the window represents the implication that she wants to be free from being trapped and this is juxtaposed by the sense that she is not wearing anything showing her desire for freedom. As the image is called eleven am,the setting of the picture is during the middle of the day. This them further enacted upon her being naked in the living room, and has a sense of being able to be seen but not being noticed, showing that she wants to be seen but is unable to be seen hence ambiguity.
